There are two types of wheelchair lifts to transport you and your chair to the next level:
A vertical platform lift (VPL) is like a simplified open-air elevator, moving straight up and down. EazyLift® Elevators recommends using a vertical platform lift when an entrance is too steep to access with a ramp or is located upstairs on a tall porch or raised deck. You may also hear them called “porch lifts” for this reason.
An inclined platform lift, or “wheelchair stair lift” is a platform which carries a wheelchair and passenger along the incline of a stairway. Combine the vertical platform lift with a stairlift, and you get an inclined platform lift.
A wheelchair-bearing platform travels on a rail system mounted securely along the staircase, which makes this a great lift to use when only two levels in a house need to be accessible. Inclined platform lifts can be engineered to fit both straight and curved staircases.
